Before you begin
PNG and JPG are image formats; PDF is a document container that can retain pages and page structure. The best choice depends on the task.
PDF FORMS exposes PDF, PNG and JPG export options. Before converting, decide whether you need an editable multi-page document or one or more images.
Choose by destination
Use PDF when the receiver asks for a document. Use PNG for sharp text and line art when file size is acceptable; JPG can be smaller for photographic pages.
Look for fine detail
Small text, logos and signatures need enough image resolution. Do not judge quality only from the thumbnail.
Check pages separately
A multi-page PDF does not always translate into one image. Confirm what the editor actually exported.
Test the final deliverable
Open the saved file using the application your recipient is likely to use, then verify orientation and size.
A practical example
A website asks for a JPG of one page, while your original is a three-page PDF. You do not want to submit three pages as one ambiguous thumbnail. Check whether the export gives separate page images, choose the requested page and inspect the small text before uploading.
What to check before you finish
- Conversion is not OCR; image content does not automatically become searchable text.
- A JPG may introduce visible compression around thin text.
- A recipient’s upload system may impose its own file-size limit.
